Omisore promises O’YES cadets job security, says SDP will resist rigging

Published by

UNLIKE his loss in 2014, which he blamed on rigging, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has said that his party will resist any attempt to rig the September 22 governorship election in favour of his oppositions, saying, “we will be more vigilant now, and we have instructed our supporters to resist any attempt to rig.”

He has also promised the O’YES employees of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, saying none of them would be sacked, rather, he would add dignity to their jobs.

Omisore, who lost the 2014 governorship election to the ruling APC of Governor Aregbesola, said, “at the tribunal, while sorting out the ballot sheets, we saw ballot papers from Lagos in Osogbo, and many other irregularities were seen,” according to him, were good reasons to establish his claims, warning that, this time around, such will not be tolerated.

Speaking with Nigerian Tribune, in Osogbo on his party’s chances at the polls, Omisore said, “the most important thing to address is the issue of rigging of votes. But now, we will be more vigilant, and with this, we are going to be victorious. We won in 2014, we went to the tribunal, but things were manipulated. But even at that, we are going to be more vigilant now.”

Then on the issue of some people still linking him with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Omisore said, it was because they lacked self-confidence, dignity and courage to campaign for election with their own name, instead, he said they preferred to use his name because that is the only name they believed could win the heart of people to their side.

According to him, “the issue is, it is the PDP that is telling lies. I am not in PDP, I am in SDP, they are using my name to campaign because they have failed. When you see the opposition using your name to campaign, that means you are popular and they want to use your name to win election. So, if they want to come and join us, they are welcome.”

Omisore, who described the PDP as “a dead party in Osun,” said, he left the PDP with 70 per cent of its structure, which he said, had, today, made the SDP the largest party in Osun State, as according to him, the “PDP is fragmented, APC is fragmented, and SDP is the only party that stands firm. So, we are in SDP and in it to win.

Omisore, assuring the O’YES cadets that he would not tamper with their jobs when elected as the governor of the state, said part of his campaign programmes was human capital development and offering of gainful and pensionable jobs.

This he said while addressing thousands of electorate that trooped out in Modakeke in Ife East Area Council of the state, who welcomed him to their community when on campaign tour of the area, where he also promised to offer those in need of employment good jobs in the first month if his assumption of office as the governor of the state.

Also on his visit to the palace of Baabokun of Ibokun Ijesa land, Oba Festus Kayode Awogboro, the monarch blessed the aspiration of Omisore to be the governor of the state, while he, Omisore, promised the people of Ibokun in Obokun Local Government Area the construction of the roads leading to the town when elected as the state governor.

Omisore had also visited Ife North Local Government, Ipetumodu town and Ipetu Ijesha in Ori Ade Local Government Area of the state where he promised the people of his government’s readiness to restore the lost glory of Osun State if elected the governor on September 22.
