Senator Tinubu, who donated the money to women traders in Birnin Kebbi under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) economic empowerment programme and recapitalisation grants in Kebbi State, stated that each of the traders would get the sum of N50,000 to improve their trading.
While distributing the money to the beneficiaries, Senator Tinubu, who was represented by the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, who was also represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor of the State, Hajiya Maryam Umar Abubakar, explained that the grants, which are being distributed across the country simultaneously, should be utilised judiciously.
According to her, “This grant is designed to drive economic growth towards a better life for the families. This event is taking place simultaneously across the 36 states of the Federation, including FCT.”
“We are all aware of the challenges faced by small and medium enterprises, especially the petty traders who formed the backbone of our local economy.
“These challenges, however, have not deterred the women traders. I salute you and all your courage and resilience that make you go on to put food on the table for your families.
“Today too, through the Renewed Hope Initiative Economy Empowerment Programme, we are providing grants for 1,000 selected women who are petty traders per state with the sum of N50,000 each to recapitalise and grow their businesses. A total of N1.850 billion will be disbursed to 37,000 women petty traders across the nation.
“The grant provided today is to assist these women in overcoming some of their business challenges, expanding their businesses, creating more jobs, and contributing more robustly to the future economy.
“Economy empowerment remains a core objective of our Renewed Hope Initiative, and we have consistently delivered on the promises both to women and youths across the 6 geopolitical zones of our country to support the economic reform of the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We recognise that empowering women economically is not just morally imperative but a strategic job. When women strive, the economy stimulates, and by extension, our communities and nation prosper.” She said.
She commended all the state coordinators, who are the first ladies of each state, stressing that their support, including that of other stakeholders involved, has made the programme a huge success.
“To the 1,000 petty traders who are the beneficiaries of this programme, I say that you are the heart of our economy, the foundation of our communities, and an un-song heroine of our nation.
“You have shown incredible resilience in overcoming numerous challenges to build your businesses. Today, we celebrate your hard work and determination. Let us all continue to work together to build a Nigeria where every woman has an opportunity to succeed and where every small business can grow and contribute to the nation’s prosperity.
In his remark, Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Cultures, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, commended the First Lady for the grants and urged the beneficiaries to utilise the grant judiciously.
Also, the State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Hamidu Jarkuka, expressed the readiness of the state to discharge humanitarian services to the people at any time and commended the First Lady for the initiative.”
