Olukere hosts over 70 Ekiti traditional rulers, seeks support for Oyebanji’s govt

No fewer than 70 traditional rulers from different communities under the auspices of Majority Obas of Ekiti Land (MOBEL) gathered in Ikere-Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State, for their monthly meeting.

The meeting, which took place at the weekend, was hosted by the Olukere of Ikere, Odo-Oja, Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Abdulganiyu Obasoyin, where issues relating to the development of the communities were discussed.

Oba Obasoyin, while speaking, reiterated the role of traditional rulers in the development of any community, noting that unity and cooperation within the institution would help drive developmental projects in the state.

He commended the founding fathers of MOBEL for sustaining unity among members of the association and for being responsive in promoting peace and progress in their domains.

Olukere added that the association, since its creation, has fostered unity and cordial relationships among all classes of monarchs and has been working with the state government in the overall interest of the state.

He used the occasion to call on governments at all levels and lawmakers to provide constitutional roles for traditional rulers in the country to enhance socio-economic development.

He lauded the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye, for giving due recognition to the traditional institution and prioritising their welfare.

The traditional ruler appealed to his colleagues to continue their support for Governor Oyebanji’s government, “to get the best for their people and their respective communities.”

“Governor Oyebanji (BAO) since inception of his administration has prioritize the welfare of Obas also ensure prevalence of peace and development of our various towns, I think there is the need for us to continue to cooperate with this people’s friendly governor as well as support his policies and programmes geared towards actualising his Shared Prosperity Agenda,” Olukere said.

The newly elected Chairman of MOBEL and Ojurin of Ijurin-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemi Afolabi, noted that since the formation of MOBEL, “no month has passed without the association holding either executive or general meetings, workshops, conferences amongst others.

“MOBEL is equally known as the only royal association in the state that holds annual end of year get-together for its members and their Oloris.”

He also enjoined the Obas to continue to work in unity for the progress of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
