Oluebube Amadi: Overcoming fear, breaking barriers in software engineering

Published by

Oluebube Princess Amadi, a senior software engineer, is an example for those who have fears in the process of attaining goals and dreams. She is celebrated today for her notable contribution to the cloud-native space. However, it didn’t come easy because she had to overcome her initial fears of the complex programme to become a force in the Kubernetes community.

Kubernetes is a system for automating software deployment, scaling, and management.

Oluebube described the open-source project, saying “Kubernetes is the second largest open-source project in the world after Linux, and the largest Go open-source project in the world.

“When I first encountered Kubernetes, I was overwhelmed by its complexity and I doubted my ability to master it.”

On the importance of the project, she said “In this role, I also mentor people from different parts of the world, who would go on to become Doc Leads.”

In her role as the Release Docs Lead, Oluebube makes sure that the enhancements to Kubernetes in the release cycle is properly documented, making the platform more accessible to users worldwide.

Oluebube’s story points to what can be achieved through perseverance and community support.  She said, “Community is everything in the open-source world,” adding, “The support and collaboration within the Kubernetes community have been instrumental in my growth and success.”

Oluebube, in addition to her work at Kubernetes, is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in technology. She also leads initiatives within Open Source Community Africa, Women Who Code, Facebook Developer Circles, and Cloud Native Computing Foundation community groups.

Through these, she empowers underrepresented groups to participate in open-source projects. She said she cherishes the opportunity presented to all and sundry to contribute and succeed in the tech industry.

Her story reminds all that initial fears can be overcome, transformed, and built into strengths. According to her, all that is required is the right mindset and appropriate community support.
