The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has congratulated his nephew, Prince Olaolu Akintunde Owolabi, on his elevation to the status of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Owolabi, who is the Managing Partner of Bonajo Badejo & Co., was among 87 lawyers admitted to the exclusive inner circle of legal practitioners at a ceremony presided over by the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, on 2nd October 2024.

The Olubadan, who was represented by Chief Aderenle Salami Oyetunde, Ajia Balogun of Ibadanland, said the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria was a testament to the contributions and influence of Prince Owolabi on the development of the legal profession in Nigeria.

“We’re proud of your unwavering commitment to justice and wish you continued grace and guidance as you use the new platform to shine a light on the enforcement of the rights of Nigerians,” Oba Olakulehin added.

In separate remarks, the Ajia Balogun of Ibadanland told the recipient, “As you embark on this new chapter in your career, we look forward to your continued impact in the pursuit of justice and equality.

“Your leadership and mentorship will guide the next generation of legal practitioners, ensuring that fairness and justice remain at the forefront of our legal system.”

In another congratulatory message, his classmates from the 1993 set of Command Secondary School, Ibadan, acknowledged the hard work of the new SAN.

They said, “Your contributions to landmark cases have not only advanced legal precedents but also played a vital role in shaping the legal landscape of our dear nation. Through your hard work and dedication to the cause of the common man, you have influenced key decisions that have not only impacted the outcomes of individual cases but also laid the foundation for future legal interpretations, significantly contributing to the development of precedent in our nation’s legal system.”

Prince Owolabi graduated from the University of Ilorin in 1999 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2001. He has been in private practice and is presently the Managing Partner at Bonajo Badejo & Co., a reputable law firm established in November 1986 by the late Mr. Jadegoke Adebonajo Badejo (SAN).

The firm has demonstrated and proven expertise in various fields ranging from commercial transactions, corporate law, and company secretarial matters to trademarks and patents, litigation, family and probate, real estate and property matters, civil and criminal proceedings, and employment, labor, and industrial issues, among others.

Bonajo Badejo & Co. has established a reputation as one of Nigeria’s oldest law firms, with a track record of winning numerous cases in all the courts in Nigeria.

With over 38 years of experience, the firm has groomed over 80 lawyers, some of whom have risen to the pinnacle of their careers in legal practice as judges, magistrates, notary publics, or firm owners.

The firm has successfully served more than 2,000 clients, including financial institutions, international companies, and high-net-worth individuals. Its client base is spread across Nigeria and abroad; the firm acts as legal counsel to one of the largest manufacturing companies in Nigeria and also provides legal advisory services to boards of government institutions.

Owolabi has successfully managed the firm since becoming the managing partner, building upon its renowned reputation and delivering top-tier legal services. Under his leadership, the firm has expanded its client base, both within Nigeria and internationally. Owolabi became a Notary Public in 2013 and has appeared in all the courts of record in Nigeria.
