ECHOES of the life and times of strongman of Ibadan politics, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, reverberated last weekend in the city as the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji; two former deputy governors of Oyo State, Azeem Gbolarumi and Taofeek Arapaja as well as Islamic clerics prayed for the repose of the soul of the late politician.
Adedibu died 10 years ago at the age of 80.
A Ramadan lecture has since been held annually to immortalise him.
At this year’s edition of the lecture, held last weekend, the Olubadan, who was in the Olubadan-in-Council with the late Adedibu, recalled some of the good deeds of the politician and then prayed Allah to forgive his trespasses.

Also, Gbolarumi and Arapaja extolled the virtues of Adedibu whom they described as a political father and a colossus.
Wife of Alhaji Adedibu, Alhaja Bose Adedibu, in her remarks, said her husband was everything to her, including a father and a mentor.
“His footprints remain in the sands of time and his memory, evergreen in my heart and the hearts of all the children he left behind.
“We will continue to remember him and that informed why we continue to hold annual Ramadan lecture in his honour. This is the 10th edition and we will continue to organise it to feed souls with what Allah commands us to do,” Alhaja Adedibu added.
In his sermon, renowned cleric, Sheikh Buhari Musa, urged the living to remember that they would be asked to account for their worldly deeds in the hereafter.
He spoke of Adedibu’s philanthropy and asked the audience to emulate the late politician by being generous towards underprivileged people in the society.
