Old students seek stakeholders support in revamping nation’s public schools

The old students’ association of Moba Grammar School, Otun-Ekiti in Ekiti State, has called on stakeholders in the nation’s education sector to play their roles in building trust in public schools.

The national president of the alumni set, Samuel Bankole, spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti ahead of the 60th anniversary of the school, stating that the government must not be left alone with the task of developing public schools in the country.

He said, “We all know the government alone cannot change the course of our public schools in the country. All of us, including old students, have roles to play in making it better, like we had back then.

“The problem of our education, especially public secondary schools, is not about the government alone. We parents need to do our best too and stop discouraging acts that would not affect the values of public schools.”

Bankole explained that in celebrating the 60th anniversary, slated for 1st February 2025, the alumni set, among other projects, would be building an N250 million worth of Information and Communication Centre for the school.

He added that the project, when completed, would afford students the opportunity to prepare for computer-based external examinations and other activities using technology.

While noting that the school has witnessed remarkable progress over the last 60 years, the president appealed to old students and other well-wishers to support them in achieving the donation of the ICT centre.

The president noted that the ICT centre will improve digital literacy, enhance the learning experience, and bolster problem-solving skills among the students.

He revealed that the ceremony and the fundraising are expected to be attended by dignitaries from far and near, including the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji.

According to him, the school in the last sixty years has produced students who are making waves and exploits in their chosen careers, expressing optimism that the project would be delivered in record time.
