Old students provide uniforms, renovate classrooms in Abeokuta

In a bid to support quality education and improve students’ welfare, the National Old Students Association of MACJOB Grammar School, Abeokuta, has provided free school uniforms to 358 students since the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic session.

The initiative, which ensures that each beneficiary receives two sets of uniforms, is part of the association’s broader commitment to enhancing learning conditions at the school.

The donation was acknowledged during the school’s 79th Founder’s Day celebration and the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Saturday in Abeokuta.

Speaking at the event, the National President of the association, Abiodun Babajide, emphasised the importance of supporting students beyond infrastructure improvements.

He noted that the free uniform program was launched to ease the financial burden on parents while ensuring that students maintain a sense of pride and discipline.

“The journey so far has been a mix of high and low moments, but in all fairness, it has been worth every sacrifice made by every one of us. Individually and collectively, as a family, we have demonstrated remarkable dedication and commitment to Project MAGSOSA.

“Other initiatives are free uniform, the free uniform initiative that provided free school uniforms to 358 students at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic session, with each student receiving two sets of uniforms, Constitution review, Private teacher support program, and Capacity building among others”.

Mr Babajide also said the old students renovated six dilapidated classrooms at their alma mater.

“Part of our achievement is the One Class for One Set initiative; aimed to address the deplorable state of classrooms, we launched the initiative requiring each class set to fund the renovation of a classroom, in its first phase, a block of six classrooms was successfully renovated.

“With this initiative, we envision a complete transformation of the school’s classrooms soon. We are also going to embark on renovation of another 10 classrooms, soon.

“The first six renovated classrooms were completed by 87, 90, 94, 95, 99 sets”.

The event was also used to posthumously honour the founder of Fatgbems Group of companies, Alhaji Fatai Gbemisola.

He was an alumnus of the school, and his contributions to the development of the Association and the School are notable.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education in Ogun state, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu commended the contribution of the MACJOB Old Students Association toward the complementing of government efforts.

Arigbabu who was represented by the Director of Secondary Education and Higher Education in the state, Mr. Oluwole Majekodunmi admitted that the government alone cannot do it all, calling on the other old student associations to emulate the good work of MACJOB’s old student association.

In the same vein, the NLC Chairman in Ogun state, Comrade Hammed Benco who is also an alumnus of the school joined forces to call on old student associations on the need to contribute their quota to the development of the educational sector in Nigeria.

He posited that things can only get better when everyone joins the government to build educational sectors.
