Olawunmi, 10, needs N1.3m to get her legs back

Olawunmi looked sad; it was obvious that she had become frustrated with the state in which her daughter was in. Mrs Feyisara Adeyemi told the Nigerian Tribune that she had toiled so much to help restore the legs of her 10-year-old daughter, Olawunmi Adeyemi.

In a letter introducing the crippled Olawunmi and signed by Dr Segun Aranmolate, a consultant plastic and reconstruction surgeon, “The above named girl was in a domestic fire at the age of six months. She developed post burns contracture after healing. She gradually became crippled as she was growing up. The problems involve both legs. She cannot stand on her feet, as the right knee is about 160 % in inflexion deformity, both feet are badly deformed by the contractives.

“She is at the moment being carried physically to school. She cannot in any way match her mates in anything. She showed up at our clinic last year and returned again. We hope to help her recover from the deformities with your kind assistance by plastic and reconstructive surgery. The surgery will be in stages, it can take up to six months for the conclusion. We need about one million, three hundred thousand naira to return her to her normal shape.”

Olawunmi said she would indeed be grateful if Nigerians would help her child to walk.
