Late elder statesman, Chief Olaniwun Ajayi, had scheduled a meeting with some political leaders from Yoruba land on November 6, 2016 before he passed on, on November 6.

This was disclosed by leaders of a new political association, during a condolence visit to the family residence in Isara Remo, Ogun State, on Friday. They are recieved on behalf of the family by Dr OLu Olaniwun.

According to the leaders, the meeting was part of the ongoing consultations with eminent sons and daughters of the Yoruba extraction, including traditional rulers towards building a consensus on a Yoruba agenda in the emerging political dispensation.

The 12-man delegation, which comprised Dr Kunle Olajide, Chief Oladosu Oladipo; Professor Soji Adejumo, Dr Femi Majekodunmi, among other leaders of the Patriotic Movement (TPM).

In their condolence message to the family, the leaders of the association described Sir Olaniwun as an exceptional Yoruba son, who committed all his God-given talents and resources to the cause of the Yoruba race and restructuring of the country.

They noted that despite his age, he led “delegates from the South-West, who consisted of other senior citizens, distinguished persons and professionals to the 2014 national constitutional conference held In Abuja, where they shone like a million stars.”

While expressing deep sadness over the demise of the octogenarian, the leaders revealed that after contacting him for a meeting to discuss contemporary political issues in Yoruba- land and indeed the country, Sir Olaniwun willingly accepted to host them on November 6, 2016, at his country home.

They noted that he was not only committed to the unity and progress of the Yoruba race, but was also in the forefront of fighting against injustice anywhere and regardless of which ethnic nationality  was involved or affected.

“He was a loyal, dedicated and fearless apostle of the Awo creed and ethos. He stood solidly behind him through thick and thin, especially during the darkest hour in the First Republic,” they stated in the condolence message.

The leaders extolled the virtues of Sir Olaniwun, who they noted “exhibited uncommon retentive memory and scholarly acumen throughout his political and legal career.”
