Olaiya Igwe apologizes to Nigerians over campaign for Bola Tinubu

Published by

Veteran Yoruba actor Olaiya Igwe, also known as Ebun Oloyede, has sparked a social media frenzy with an apology video he recently shared.

This resurgence in attention stems from an incident during the 2023 general election campaign when Olaiya Igwe garnered widespread attention by staging a seaside campaign for Bola Tinubu, now Nigeria’s president, while unclothed.

Recalling the 2023 headlines, Olaiya Igwe again found himself in the spotlight.

In his now-deleted apology video, the actor attributed his actions during the campaign to a divine revelation he claimed to have received concerning Tinubu.

Olaiya Igwe recounted Tinubu’s assistance, particularly regarding his health, which prompted him to support the politician in such an unconventional manner.

Speaking in Yoruba, Olaiya expressed, “…Because of things he has done for me, health-wise, and I received a revelation to pray for him at the beach, which I did. I was criticised and cursed after I did, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t annoyed with him (Tinubu), and neither did I react negatively to him. I knew the criticism was inevitable because I am a much-loved actor. People who didn’t expect my actions must have been shocked, wondering why I did what I did. I know the criticism would have come from Bola Tinubu’s rival parties.”
