Okowa to build 271 functional health centres in second term

Published by

GOVERNOR Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, on Thursday in Asaba, has pledged to build 271 functional health centres, one for each ward in the state.

This is just as he said he would pay special attention to the girl-child in the consolidation of his health insurance scheme policy across the state.

Senator Okowa, while addressing members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State chapel, added that his administration would double its efforts in its wealth creation and social investment programmes for the aged and youths.

The governor, who appreciated the media for their support in his first term, appealed for more cordial partnership with pen pushers in the state in order to take the state to greater heights.

To encourage entrepreneurship in the state, Okowa disclosed that 19 more technical schools will be built to complement the already existing six.

The essence, he reiterated, is to encourage children of the state to know how to apply their “brains and hands” to become entrepreneurs and self-reliant after their education.

On development in riverine areas of the state, the governor said his second term would be passionately focussed on the areas.

“I went to communities along the Benin River during the campaign for the last elections and those in the riverine area also need development. We will need to pay more attention to riverine communities because a lot of resources of the state come from there,” he enthused.

At the 2019 Media Appreciation Meeting with the governor were newly appointed Secretary to State Government (SSG), Hon Chiedu Ebie, former Commissioner for Finance and Chief David Edevbie, among other government functionaries.
