AVALANCHE of tributes came the way of late entrepreneurial guru, Chief Michael Christopher Onajirhevbe Ibru, on Wednesday at the funeral service sequel to his internment at Ughelli, Delta State.
The service witnessed the presence of dignitaries including, Governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Godwin Obaseki of Delta and Edo states, former Vice President Alex Ekwueme and Chief Edwin Clark.
Others were representative of General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Pastor E. A. Kalejaiye, governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief O’tega Emerhor, Anglican clerics and government functionaries, among others.
In his sermon taken from Revelation 7:9-17, Archbishop, Metropolitan and All Nigeria, Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, described late Ibru as a great man by all standards and a selfless national entrepreneur who has improved the lives of his family, community and country.
The Anglican leader in Nigeria admonished the Ibrus nay Nigerians to seek the first instalment of rest from Jesus Christ, which he said, would usher in eternal rest after sojourn on earth.
“Knowing God through Christ, who is the visa to Heaven, and doing His will, is rest, indeed.
The best, most sinful, holiest, richest or poorest of us is still not at rest. To live in the world is to live in tribulation, but Jesus is the passport to escape damnation like the people in the book of Revelation 7 did,” the most senior Anglican cleric submitted.
Governor Okowa, while addressing the congregation at the funeral service held at All Saints’ Cathedral Church, Ughelli, also extolled the virtues of late Ibru to include generosity and humility in spite of his immense wealth.
He admonished the Ibrus to strive hard to maintain the legacy of their departed patriarch, adding: “let humility, love, giving and peace be your guide.”
According to Okowa, the best way for the seeds of Chief Ibru to sustain his legacy is to remain humble and selfless in the service to God and mankind.
“Many people are rich and very arrogant and that is not the life we’re supposed to live.
Every humble heart seeks unity and peace and that I plead with the Ibru family and every one of us.
It’s time for us to reconcile and leave the past behind us,” the governor pleaded.
On his part, APC leader in Delta State, Chief Emerhor, described late Ibru as one who impacted several young people in Urhobo land including himself.
“You know, he was such a peaceful man, yet he was one of the richest and wonderful entrepreneur.
He left good footsteps and I pray his family would adopt such footsteps,” the business mogul prayed.
Eighty-five year- old late Michael Ibru, was the first child among seven born to Chief Epete Ibru and Chief Mrs Janet Omotogor on December 25, 1930.
His body was interred at his Agbarha-Otor country home shortly after the church service and was survived by wives, 18 children, 27 grand children and two great grand children.
