Okorie trains another 1,000 constituents on business development

The immediate past member representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the House of Representatives Hon Linus Abba Okorie, has again, trained over one thousand youths and women on cassava value chain and horticulture.

Okorie who was the immediate past Chairman of Agricultural Colleges and Institutions in the House of Representatives also gave cash gifts to the participants at the end of three-day training held at Osborn LA Palm, Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area.

Dr Abayomi Akimolaniyo, Executive Director of National Horticulture and Research Institute, Ibadan, at the programme said the training was to strengthen Agricultural policy of the Federal Government and improve the economy of the nation.

He, however, called on the people to tap into the nutritional and economic value of some crops like cent leaves to improve the economy and their health status.

“The mission is a green alternative by President Muhammadu Buhari to improve the economy through agriculture but we have the mandate for
horticultural crop production, utilisation to improve the economy of the nation.

“We have been using the technology that we have to impact it on the government to improve the unemployment situation, foreign exchange earnings and even the nutritional value of the people. they are so many crops available in our country that can give people the nutrient requirement that they need.

“We have so many crops that have high nutritional potentials. We are here in Ebonyi to empower the women, the youths, and unemployed using
crops with high nutritional content.

“We have cent leaf, a very high medicinal crop and it is among the ingredients in pepper soup and it is used in preparing pepper soup because of its high medicinal value and its high export potential especially for foreign exchange. So, they are so many value chains right from production to processing and also marketing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Okorie , represented by Ernest Nwafor, one of his aides said the training which he described as continuous will improve the knowledge of the beneficiaries on horticulture and cassava value chain.
