Okopoly suspends chief librarian for ineffectiveness

HAVING been found ineffective in performing his official duties, the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Oko has slammed a three months suspension on the institutions’ Chief Librarian, Dr Fredrick Obodoez.

The Council also announced the appointment of a new Deputy Rector for the Polytechnic, in the person of Dr Izuchukwu Onu following the expiration of the tenure of his predecessor, Mr Ejike Nwabuona.

In a press statement from the institutions’ public relations department and made available to Tribune Newspaper yesterday, the Chief Lasbry Amadi led 10th Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Oko said the suspension of the Chief Librarian, Dr Fredrick Obodoeze was decided at the plenary session of the council held recently on Oko campus.

The statement said Obodoeze was suspended from duty for a period of three months following his inability to manage the affairs of the Institution’s ultra-modern Library.

Chief Amadi who assured that services would continue at the library, reiterated that academic activities on campus especially the library remained very key aspect of the system needed to build and mould quality students,

He reminded all staff to continue with their daily duties in the institution, just as he called on the academic and non-academic staff to be serious and more dedicated to their duties.

Amadi said, “On behalf of the council warned other erring staff of the institution to seat up and take their responsibilities seriously in order to justify their pay.

“We can no longer tolerate some anomalies in the Polytechnic’s Library because that section is a very important arm of the Institution.

“We can not watch the standard go down when we were appointed to improve the standard of education. This disciplinary measure should serve as a deterrent to other academic and non-teaching staff who may think that this place is a banana republic. Discipline is our watchword and we will not compromise it”.

He further reiterated the resolve of the council to ensure delivery of academic excellence in the institution.

Meanwhile, the Council explained that Onu before his appointment was a chief lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

“From all indications, the newly appointed deputy rector will soon take over the running of the institution as the acting Rector as the outgoing, Prof. Godwin Onu would be completing his eight-year tenure on the 4th of March 2018.

“The Council in accordance with the constitutional provision is currently shopping for a substantive rector of the Polytechnic”, he said.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that Prof Onu had organized a valedictory session as well as thanksgiving service at the challenges of Light Chaplaincy to mark the end of his stay in the Polytechnic.
