Massacre of innocent worshippers at St. Philip's church, Ozubulu, Anambra
Convener, Nigerians Unite Against Terror (NUAT), Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, on Sunday strongly condemned the killing of innocent worshippers at the St. Phillips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, Anambra State, describing the incident as senseless.
Okei-Odumakin said this in a statement issued and made available to the Tribune Online, noting that such “act of killings raises scares of insecurity in Nigeria to high heavens, as we believe authorities can no longer pretend all is well.”
The NUAT convener, who is also the Convener, Women Arise, while expressing strong hope that the perpetrators of this horrific terrorist act would be swiftly identified and brought to justice, said the group viewed the Anambra attack, coming at this period, as heinous and cowardly.
This was just as she reaffirmed the group’s belief that terrorism was one of the most serious threats to national peace and security.
“It is our strong hope, that the perpetrators of this horrific terrorist act will be swiftly identified and brought to justice.”
“We view this attack, coming at this period, as heinous and cowardly, as we want to reaffirm that terrorism is one of the most serious threats to our National peace and security,” she said.
Dr. Okei-Odumakin contended that there was no justification whatever, for any individual or group, to resort to self-help, or killing of the innocents, including women and young children, in the course of settling whatever dispute, irrespective of whosoever was involved.
She, therefore, expressed the group’s “deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the government of Anambra State”, just as she prayed for “a speedy and full recovery” for those who were injured, during this senseless attack.
“Finally, we wish to reiterate our demand, that everyone involved in this attack, is quickly brought to book, as we also want to encourage the citizens, particularly members of the Ozubulu community in Anambra State, to cooperate with the security agencies and all other relevant authorities, to ensure that the identities of these criminal elements are unravelled,” she said.
