Ojukwu varsity trains staff in grant proposal writing

Chukwumemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU)’s Research Management Office (RMO), has commenced a three-day training of staff in the art of writing compelling grants and research proposals.

The flags-off training took place simultaneously at the University’s Faculty of Agriculture Conference Hall and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies, Igbariam campus, on Wednesday.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the 3-day training is an academic workshop under the theme “Grantsmanship and Research Proposal Writing “.

The Director of Research Management Office, Prof Jonathan Chineye Ijemeje, in his welcome address, affirmed his outfit’s responsibility to manage the university’s research component, and therefore the training workshop will be fulfilling in part of that obligation.

He remarked; “RMO was established to equip the staff of the university with the necessary research skills to do their work effectively.”

According to Prof Ijemeje, this workshop, organized by the RMO, is a testament to our commitment to fostering a vibrant research culture that transcends boundaries and catalyses meaningful change.

“With a focus on fostering innovation and collaboration, we aim to propel our institution to the forefront of knowledge creation, with far-reaching implications for our beloved nation, Nigeria, and beyond.

“The RMO is steadfast in its mission to revitalize research activities within our University and establish a renowned research culture that attracts support from various stakeholders, including NGOs, corporate entities, and governmental agencies.

“Through meticulous proposal development and strategic engagement with funding agencies, we aspire to secure the resources needed to drive impactful research initiatives.

“As we embark on this journey of exploration and discovery, I urge each of you to embrace the challenges, excitement, and inspiration that this workshop offers. Let us seize this opportunity to expand our horizons, deepen our understanding, and forge meaningful collaborations that transcend disciplinary boundaries.

The Director commended the University Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha for ensuring a conducive environment for the programme.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof Kayode Akinyemi and Prof Olukoya Ogen, Director of Research and Innovation Management at the Osun State University, who are the resource persons for the three-day training workshop underlined innovative ways and strategies for conducting enriched and efficient academic research.

They underscored the importance of University staff knowing the steps and guidelines needed in developing a good proposal to eventually facilitate the writing of a good dissertation.

“They also encouraged the staff and students present at the workshop to make a concerted effort to conduct research that contributes to curriculum reform in ways that will help them comprehend and overcome the difficulties they confront in their daily lives.“
