Olumide Abiodun Ojerinde
The member representing Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Olumide Abiodun Ojerinde, has assured his constituents of sustained quality representation in the National Assembly and called for more support of his constituents in the coming years.
Ojerinde, who made the call while giving the people of the three local government areas that forms his constituency a report of his stewardship, noted that the past couple of years had been an opportunity to bring about positive changes in the representation of the people of Irepo, Oorelope and Olorunsogo.
He said since he was inaugurated on June 11, 2019, he had been able to “the tempo of development, progress and constituency projects under my stewardship was steady and unprecedented,” saying so far, he had sponsored bills for the establishment of Federal Medical Center, Igboho (awaiting third reading); bill for the establishment of the College of Education, Igbeti (awaiting second reading) and a bill for the establishment of Federal University of Agriculture, Igboho (awaiting second reading).
According to him, he had also sponsored a bill for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Kishi (awaiting second reading) and a bill for an Act to establish a National Cassava Processing Plant in Igbeti, Oyo State.
These, he said were apart from motions on “need to improve the security situation around Kisi and old Oyo National Park; the urgent need to regulate the activities of private school operators over the welfare of private school teachers in Nigeria and devastating fire outbreak at the Araromi Auto Spare Parts Market, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, Oyo State which was moved in combination with 12 others.”

The lawmaker noted that he supported his constituents during the COVID-19 lockdown and had also organised empowerment and training programmes such as “farmers’ interactive forum/facilitation on major crops and seedlings for 1,000 farmers in Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo in September 2019” and “skill acquisition of 250 women and youths on cosmetology in the federal constituency in October 2019.”
Ojerinde also stated that in March 2020 there had been training and supply of 250 ‘empowerment starter packs’ to women and youths; artisan men and women as well as cash grant of N10,000 each to 250 market women and youths in the constituency, among many others.
In addition, he listed skill acquisition for 250 women in cosmetology during which beneficiaries were given cash grant, complete tools and certificates, held in December 2020 as well as the training of 100 farmers on mechanised farming through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) during which the farmers were given 100 pumping machines and 70 planters just as 1500 farm seedlings were distributed to boost production in the 2021 farming year.
On the worrying security situation in the country, the lawmaker said he had donated patrol vehicles to local vigilante groups in the federal constituency; and had also constructed and donated a maternity centre in Igboho through his Olumide Ojerinde Foundation.
Ojerinde, who is a member of Appropriation, Labour, Communication, Police Affairs, Constituency Outreach, Ecological Fund, Solid Minerals and Privatisation and Communication, Committees of the House called for more support of the people of the three local governments, saying with their support “we all will rise together and bring positive changes to our constituency and Oyo State.”
