Ohaneze Ndigbo makes fresh call for restructuring

Published by

NdigboNdigboAN apex umbrella of Igbo socio-cultural association, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Tuesday made a fresh call for restructuring insisting that it would be a mirage for Nigeria to move forward unless it is restructured.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the group, Chuks Ibegbu, who stated this at a media chat, also noted that they believed in state police but that the guidelines and operations of the state police should be strictly spelt out to avoid its abuse by politicians
Ibegbu lamented the powerlessness of some state governors in the midst of the ongoing killings in some parts of the country.

According to him, “Governors as chief security officers of their states should have authority over the police to check these challenges in as much as the Security votes they control should be spent judiciously on security alone.”

On 2019 general elections, the Ohaneze Scribe, warned against any attempt to rig the polls, urging Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security agents and politicians to keep to the rules of the game to avoid overheating the polity.

He expressed regret over the insecurity in the country and the killings in the country.

On defections in political parties, Ibegbu noted that the group is not a political party and as such is not concerned about such defections but is interested in the political sanity of the country.

“The emergence of only credible candidates will take all Nigerians as their constituency and attend to the welfare of the masses.

He lamented the hardship in the country and the rating of Nigeria as the “headquarters” of poverty in the world.

On the amity now existing between Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Ibegbu noted that it was a welcome development while calling on the Army High command to release the report of its panel on the killing of pro-Biafran activists and the whereabouts of the Leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
