Ohanaeze urges Igbo to refrain from protests, processions in South-East over Nnamdi Kanu

Following the re-arrest of leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged Igbo to refrain from all forms of protests and processions that will bring more catastrophe for South-East.

According to the group, the re-arrest of Kanu is the beginning of the end of violent agitations in south-East and a lesson to others that fail to adhere to the advice of Igbo elders and political leaders.

Secretary General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The group urged the Igbo to remain calm even as it urged the Federal Government to handle Kanu’s case in accordance with the rule of law.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls for calm and urges Igbo to desist from any form of protests and processions that will bring more catastrophe for South-Eastern Nigeria.

“The re-arrest of Nnamdi Kanu is the beginning of the end of violent agitations in south-eastern Nigeria and a lesson to others.

“Nnamdi Kanu’s refusal to adhere to the advice of Igbo leaders, elders and political leaders is the outcome of what had happened to him. He made a lot of enemies especially those that would have saved him and Federal Government will never lose grip on him again.

“We don’t think that any Igbo leader will stick out his/her neck for him, his re-arrest will eventually bring peace and stability to the region and avert another civil war.

“The Federal Government should handle the situation carefully. His trial should be strictly based on the laws of the land, the government shouldn’t kill him because it will destabilise the entire country,” it added.
