Ohanaeze condemns killing of Dora Akunyili’s husband

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has described the slaughter of Dr Chike Akunyili, late Dora Akunyili’s husband, as “atrocious, horrendous, unacceptable, and barbaric”.

The Secretary of the Igbo apex socio-cultural group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, made this known in a statement, while condemning the ethnic cleansing and extrajudicial killings in the South-East, especially in Anambra State.

He then called on the Anambra Governor, Willie Obiano, to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous crime were brought to face the consequences of their actions .

“FG is gradually closing the doors of negotiations on South-East politicians, as there might be a declaration of a State of emergency in Anambra State based on the high profile killings and uprising in the state, as a political gimmick to usher in APC governor in Anambra through a sole administrator, who might replace Governor Obiano and supervise the Anambra governorship elections.

“Ndigbo observed the one-minute silence in honor of the fallen heroes and martyrs including the husband of Dora Akunyili, during the 2021 Igbo Day of Mourning today, 29th September 2021 at Seventh Day Adventist Church,” said the statement.

Again, IPOB in a statement issued on Wednesday over the matter said that the killings in Anambra were politically motivated.

IPOB in a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, noted that IPOB had never issued any official statement saying that there would be no governorship election in Anambra State.

According to Powerful, some politicians were using the situation to eliminate their political enemies and blame it on IPOB.

He maintained that IPOB had no interest in Nigerian politics and urged Anambra politicians to leave IPOB alone and settle their scores.

“We the great family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukkwu Kanu, wish to dissociate ourselves from the senseless killing of innocent citizens in Anambra State. We have no hands in the political killings going on in Biafra land. We have severally raised the alarm that some cruel politicians are hiding under the cloak of the situation in Biafra land to eliminate their political enemies and blame it on IPOB.

“We don’t know why wicked politicians especially in Imo and Anambra States will choose to slaughter their opponents and turn around and point accusing fingers at IPOB or the operatives of Eastern Security Network ESN. Politicians should leave us alone and settle their scores. No IPOB member or ESN operative is involved in such barbarity. We have no interest in zoo politics. Restoration of Biafra is our mandate!”
