According to the organiser, Mr Efetobo Awhana of Avantgarde Tour Limited, “Nigeria Tourism Awards is the climax of activities line up of Nigeria Traveling Week and we are of the opinion to honour individuals who have contributed and promoted tourism in a unique way. We got nominations from stakeholders which were subjected to critical screening before we finally arrived at the emerging four which includes the Oguntoye Twins, Atabo David, Nnenna Fakoya- Smith and David Jubilian Ngaruwa.
Mr Awhana concluded that the four finalists were subjected to a test of public opinion through open voting. “The Oguntoye twin brothers finally emerged as the winners by claiming 64% of the total vote cast”.
The Oguntoye brothers were awarded the 24-karat gold plaque, two certificates of Recognition for creating twins tourism and two return economy tickets on Air Namibia.
In their responses, the twins tourism initiators thanked the organizers and dedicated the award to the multiple births family.
The duo are the initiators of the recently staged World Twins Festival, held at World Twins Capital, Igboora where over 2034 sets of twins gathered at a single venue. They are also the first twins in the world to be celebrated by world’s busiest airport, Hartfields, Jackson Atlanta International Airport, U.S.A. They are also the first African twins to be honoured by the Chinese government at Mojiang, China. What is more, they are also the first twins and youngest to receive African Diaspora World Tourism awards in America.
