Ogun’s community development initiatives

DEVELOPMENT  is a planned and deliberate attempt to ensure growth and effect change in the society.

The Ogun State government, through the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, has since the inception of the present administration led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun, ensured the rapid socio-economic development of the state.

The government introduced organisational and educational programmes which have assisted the people to manage their affairs through Community Development Councils (CDCs) and Community Development Associations (CDAs).

This is with  a view to improving their living standards through self-help projects. Programmes such as Citizenship and Leadership Training (C&L) were introduced.

Other developmental programmes are the drainage projects in Malufen Estate, Sagamu Local Government Area,  the construction of Ososa Town Hall by Ireby South Area Community Development Committee in Odogbolu; and the blocks of classrooms in Ijebu Ode and  at Agada Community high School in Ipokia Local Government Area.

Also, there have been installation and energising of transformers in local government areas such as Ewekoro, Obafemi Owode and  Odogbolu.

In the area of Cooperatives, the Ogun State government has been supporting over 11,500 cooperatives registered with the state government monetarily through the Bank of Industry.

In its efforts to train middle-cadre manpower for cooperative services, the state government organised a combined graduation ceremony for 11 sets of graduands (2005-2015 sessions).

Seminars and trainings were organised  for cooperatives in the state for effective discharge of their duties.

Moreover, the state government encouraged cooperatives to engage in massive education and mobilisation of the cooperative societies and unions. This helps the cooperatives to manage their affairs with a view to improving economically and doing viable projects within the state.

Some of the projects include construction of various cooperative union halls and office complexes throughout the state.
