A socio-economic activist and Yewa indigene, Engr. Gbenga Segun Akinwande has advised has urged his kinsmen to support the reelection bid of Governor Dapo Abiodun for the Ogun West senatorial district to get the governorship slot in 2027.

Akinwade advised while noting that it would be difficult for Ogun West people to achieve their gubernatorial ambition in the 2023 governorship election scheduled for this weekend.

He said, “though the people of Yewa-Awori are long overdue to occupy the Oke-Mosan government house, the realities on the ground do not give us the total assurance that such objects can be achieved at the moment.”

He pointed out that the region could not realise its guber ambition in 2019 because we had two powerful contenders from Ogun West then.

Akinwande further noted that a fire brigade approach, which is being applied in this 2023 gubernatorial ambition of Ogun West, will not work.

“Although in 2023, only one Ogun West son is on the ballot paper, the reality is that there’s not enough consultation and time to push forward such agenda across in Ogun West, not to talk of the entire state. Hence, such a fire brigade approach will backfire because all major stakeholders in Ogun West are not on board with the mission.

“We, the indigenes of Ogun West, need to tread carefully so as not to appear as antagonists to the Ijebus so that we don’t suffer again in 2027.

“What we need to do is to align our ambition and interests along the mainstream of Yoruba politics, which is the APC, and then negotiate with other zones for power rotation, as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu just did with his presidency ambition with the Northerners,” the Ayetoro-born politician said.
