Ogun to conduct LG election, Nov 16

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has fixed November 16 for elections into the 20 local government areas in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of OGSIEC, Babatunde Osibodu, made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Abeokuta.

Osibodu said guidelines for the conduct of the elections and stakeholder meetings will be held on August 8, while campaigns by political parties will commence on Friday, August 9.

He also stated that political parties are to hold party primaries from Monday, August 26, through September 9, 2024.

The statement read, “In accordance with Section 10 (1) of the Ogun State Electoral Law 2007, the general populace is hereby informed that elections for the positions of Chairmen of the Twenty (20) Local Governments and Councilors of the Two Hundred and Thirty-six (236) Wards of Ogun State of Nigeria will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm.

“Prospective candidates must obtain Nomination Forms for the Local Government Council Elections from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) headquarters at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, no later than Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Completed forms must be submitted by Friday, November 1, 2024.

“The names of all successful candidates will be published by November 4, 2024; such candidates so published shall be deemed qualified to contest in the elections.”
