Ogun SUBEB commends Universal Learning Solutions

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commended Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) in the implementation of Jolly Phonics projects in Public primary schools across the three Senatorial Districts of Ogun State.

Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Jolly Phonics in Nigeria, the Executive Chairman of Ogun SUBEB, Dr Majekodunmi Olufemi noted that efforts of the project are in line with the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun’s mantra of provision of fictional, qualitative education to learners thereby improving the literacy level and efficiency of learners in schools.

He noted that with the successful training of 2,725 teachers and monitors in the Jolly Phonics projects under the Board’s 2017/2018 Teachers Professional Development (TPD) programmes, Jolly Phonics to a large extent has yielded positive results in the development and enhancement of teachers’ competence in content delivery and literacy education in Ogun State.

In a goodwill message from the Chief Executive Officer of ULS, Gary and Naomi Foxcroft, delivered by the Ogun State Project Coordinator, Dotun Sanni, the Organization noted that Jolly Phonics projects, which started in Akwa Ibom in 2006, is now in all 36 states and FCT in Nigeria.

Foxcroft, therefore, applauded all of the SUBEB Chairmen and Directors in each of the states for their faith in Universal Learning Solutions and their willingness to join hands in the fight against illiteracy.

“Together with the hard work and commitment of our Jolly Phonics teachers in Nigeria; an army of inspirational Jolly Phonics trainers; well-experienced trustees; and an incredibly talented team of European and Nigerian project staff, who always go the extra mile, we have managed to create something very special, something far greater than the sum of the parts,” he said.

To commemorate the event in Ogun State, a quiz competition was conducted which consist of two school representatives from each of the three Senatorial Districts in Ogun State.

Baptist Day School came first in the Quiz Competition, first, runner-up was St. Annes (RCM) Nur/Pry School, Ibara Abeokuta, while the second runner-up goes to Wesley Nursery and Primary School, Ikenne, and they were gifted with various degrees of prizes.

Also, awards were given to the SUBEB Chairman, the Board Secretary, the Director Academic, Schools and Services, the State Desk Officer, Best Local Government Desk Officer, and Best Jolly Phonics teacher; for their unreserved supports for the state project.

One of the awardees, Jolly Afu Temitope appreciated the Universal Learning Solutions, UBEC, and Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board for the opportunity given to her to show her skills as a Jolly Phonics teacher leader and teacher, while commending the efforts of the state coordinator, Dotun Sanni, and Daniel Ologe.
