Gov Dapo Abiodun
The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has appealed to Gov Dapo Abiodun to resume the payment of bursaries and scholarships for the indigenes of the state in tertiary institutions.
Mr Ogunrombi Oluwagbemileke, the National President of NAOSS, made the appeal in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said that the payment of the bursaries and scholarships had become necessary so as to support the students in their academic pursuits.
Oluwagbemileke urged the governor to constitute a committee to be saddled with the responsibility of ensuring adequate disbursement of the bursaries to the beneficiaries.

“This will put an end to what has nearly become the norm, that is, the sharing of money meant for indigenous students by certain persons in the state,” he said.
According to him, the failure of the previous governments in terms of payment of bursary for indigenous students was a disincentive to the students.
“It is very unfortunate that the Ibikunle Amosun-led administration failed to fulfil the social contract it entered into with the people by refusing to give the needed attention to the education sector in the state,” he said.
NAN recalls that Ogun state students had several times staged protests over unpaid bursaries and scholarship during the last administration in the state.
The association’s demands included an immediate disbursement of bursary and scholarship awards to the members and the reduction in the tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions, among others.
