Ogun signage agency moves against unauthorised advertising, to deploy mobile adverts in 2024

The Ogun State Signage and Advertising Agency has initiated a crackdown on unauthorised advertising stickers from other states.

This is just as the agency is set to deploy mobile advert app in 2024 by generating stickers with codes to be sent directly to vehicle owner’s email in order to streamline the process and curb counterfeiting.

Speaking at the weekend in Abeokuta during the launch of the app, General Manager of the agency, Fola Onifade, disclosed that the enforcement of the crackdown will be carried out on vehicles carrying stickers designed to defraud the state, adding that only stickers from corresponding rates like Ogun will be exempted.

He said: “For instance, if you’re coming from Lagos with a LASSA sticker, it’s understandable since they allow vehicles from Ogun State into Lagos, but if you have a Ekiti sticker, it may not be permitted.

“Stickers from other states meant to defraud won’t be allowed. For example, if your vehicle is registered in Ogun State but you produce a Kogi State sticker without justification, it amounts to deliberate fraud and evasion taxes or fees. “n such cases, we reserve the right to ban the vehicle and insist on proper compliance with state regulations.”

Speaking on the expanded zonal enforcement and franchise partnership, Onifade said the agency has expanded its coverage from three senatorial districts to eight bundles, which will facilitate better state-wide enforcement.

He also disclosed that the agency has continued to surpass its estimates year after year while expressing confidence in exceeding this year’s target through extensive monitoring, enforcement, and established contacts across the country.

“We’ve chosen specific franchises to promote and implement the sticker system. Requests will be processed within 24 hours after submission.

“This year, we’ve expanded from three senatorial districts to eight bundles, enhancing coverage and increasing opportunities for practitioners.

“Security features are in place, contributing to the elimination of counterfeit stickers since last year. We aim to document these achievements and intensify enforcement to ensure compliance and proper fee payment,” he said.

Speaking in the same vein, one of the agency’s consultants, Ayo Osipitan, said the transition to digital advertising will curb counterfeit of the agency’s documents, adding that the said previous experience was unpleasant.

“The agency is set to ensure that 2024 is well packaged for not only the government but also branded vehicles owners in the state,” he said.
