Ogun reaffirms commitment to cleaner environment

Ogun State government has reaffirmed its commitment to a cleaner, safer and healthier environment through effective, efficient and sustainable environmental management.

Deputy Governor of the state, Noimot Salako-Oyelede, stated this while declaring open the 2025 Management Retreat of the Ministry of Environment and its agencies: Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) with the theme “Streamlining Policy Implementation Objectives in Environmental Governance” in Abeokuta.

She said the retreat presented a strategic opportunity for deep reflection, planning and realignment of the state environmental policies and governance framework which will ensure efficiency in environmental service delivery across the state.

Salako-Oyedele therefore enjoined the ministry and its agencies to strengthen inter- agency collaboration for more effective policy implementation and ensure that the state’s environmental policies align with national and global sustainability goals, adding that the state government understands that a clean, safe and well-managed environment is essential for economic growth, public health and overall societal well-being.

Welcoming participants earlier, Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, emphasized the need for continuous manpower development through training to enhance capacity at the management level for efficient and effective service delivery saying these necessitated the retreat, the third in last three years and called on the participants to make the best use of the opportunity.

In a goodwill message, Ogun State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya represented by the Permanent Secretary Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr Jola Oyeneye called on the participants to ensure continuous environmental safety and well-being of the residents through policies and necessary enforcement of environmental laws.       

Highlights of the two-day retreat were the awards of excellence to some management staff with Mrs Taiwo Adebiyi as the best management staff in the Ministry of Environment, with Mrs Yemisi Oshinaike from OGEPA, and Mr Olajide Ayilara from OGWAMA. Mr Tunji Egbemuyiwa won the 2025 Ogun State Environmental Ambassador.
