Ogun RAAMP awards 209.7km rural roads

The Ogun State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OG-RAAMP) has awarded contracts covering 209.7 km of rural roads across the nine federal constituencies in the state.

Additionally, three markets across the three senatorial districts – Ogun Central, Ogun East, and Ogun West – have been selected and awarded for intervention by the agency.

The agency was responsible for upgrading the following roads: Olugbo-Oluga-Sipe-Ogbagba (Ogun Central), Isamuro-Okenugbo road in Ago-Iwoye area of Ijebu North (Ogun East), and Agosasa-Idolorisa and Ijofin Bode Ase (Ogun West), awarded for both maintenance and rehabilitation.

Recall that Ogun RAAMP, a project initiated by the state government, is guaranteed by the federal government of Nigeria’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. It operates under a tripartite financing mechanism involving the State Government, World Bank, and the French Development Agency (AFD).

Meanwhile, the State Project Coordinator, Engr. Adejumo, has assured communities along the rural roads corridors of the timely delivery of roads according to rural road standards mandated by the project’s funding parties.

“The signing of these rural road contracts is significant and pivotal for us. They mark the Ogun State Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, to equitable development in rural areas, even reaching communities previously neglected,” stated Adejumo.

A document obtained by our correspondent in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on Friday indicated that the rural roads scheduled for repair fall under backlog maintenance, total rehabilitation, and maintenance and rehabilitation categories.

The document, signed by State Project Coordinator Engr. Waheed Adejumo, listed the markets earmarked for remodeling as Oja-Odan market (Ogun West), Makun Omi market (Ogun East), and Kila market (Ogun Central).

A breakdown of the roads shows that areas known for high production of farm produce receive a fair share of the rural roads distribution.

Meanwhile, the Bale of Okenugbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area, Chief Niyi Adeleye, has pledged full support and collaboration to RAAMP for the success of the project.

“Our people will provide maximum support to your contractors and RAAMP crew to ensure the project’s success,” stated the Bale.

“As a community, we request your consideration in engaging our qualified and capable youth in various roles. Our tradition says that when rain falls within a territory, the territory absorbs it. With this in mind, we ask for a share of local content involvement from your contractors,” Chief Adeleye concluded in a statement titled “Our Appreciation on Isamuro-Okenugbo Road.”
