The eldest son of the Olojoru town in Itori area of Ogun State has been hacked to death by suspected land speculators in Alagbado area of Lagos State.
The deceased, Jamiu Olipede, had reportedly had a confrontation with the land speculators at his father’ s house at the Federal Housing Estate ,Phase 6, Surulere, Alagbado, Lagos, few hours before his death .
The image maker in charge of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident to Metro saying that the police were on the trail of the hoodlums.
It was gathered that the father of the deceased person, Oba Musiliu Olipede and his family had some years ago been forced out of the building, before he was reinstated after a court judgment .
The 29-year-old Jamiu, until his death, was staying in the disputed building with his mother and other siblings.
An elder sister to the deceased, Ganiyat, told Metro that “it was last Tuesday that some land speculators, led by certain men )name withheld) came to our house and said that we should vacate the building before three hours. They said that they had a court judgment on some houses in the estate.”
She added that “Jamiu was around then and he asked them for the judgment but they said that they had spoken with the Area Commander and that they had his approval to evict us.”
The elder sister to the deceased Jamiu stated further that “we called our father and he came to Lagos. He went with Jamiu to the people’s office but they insisted that we should vacate the house and they threatened to kill somebody over the house.
“Our father explained to them that the house was allotted to him by the government and that they should allow him to get to the Federal Housing Authority and other allotees but they did not want to listen “ Ganiyat said.
A gang of hoodlums reportedly invaded the building later in the night and descended on Jamiu who was the only person around and inflicted machete cuts on his head and body severally.
Jamiu reportedly struggled and attempted to run away from the house but the assailants ran after him and inflicted more machete cuts on many parts of his body.
The deceased died before he could be rushed to the hospital as the assailants reportedly shot into the air to scare residents from coming out of their homes.
When contacted, the police image maker in the state police command, SP Dolapo Badmos said “yes, I am confirming the incident and we are on the trail of the hoodlums.”
The police image maker also assured that the police would ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act were brought to book .
