The Assistant Inspector General Police, in charge of Lagos and Ogun, Abdulmajid Ali, on Thursday warned that security agencies would not condone any breach of peace during the local government taking place, on Saturday, in Ogun State.
He also said the agencies would deal decisively with any individual or group that might want to perpetrate electoral offences.
He was addressing an extended security meeting with chiefs, representatives of political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the election.
Ali appealed to the parties to abide by the rules of the election, as provided in the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, warning that any attempt to disrupt the election would be handled appropriately.
The AIG further said that the Police and other security agencies were fully prepared to ensure that the election was hitch-free, warning the police officers that would be on duty during the poll against compromise.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has warned all foreigners residing in the state to steer clear of the Local Government.
The Command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Felix Kuti, said the warning by Comptroller of Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, Yusuf Ganiyu Mumeen, was to remind foreigners that they are not permitted to participate in any electoral process.
He gave the warning that a meeting with leaders of the various foreign communities, held at the Command’s headquarters at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Tuesday.
The Comptroller also used the opportunity to wan foreigners resident in the state to remain law abiding, while assuring the entire people of state of the command’s readiness to partner with other security agencies in ensuring peace, security and orderliness throughout the period of the elections.
