Ogun: Isiaka raises alarm over alleged plan to rig election

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State, Prince Nasir Gboyega Isiaka, has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by opposition parties to manipulate the March 2 governorship election.

He dropped the hint while addressing newsmen on Wednesday on the socio-economic situation of the state and the 2019 governorship election, at GNICO campaign office in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Isiaka flanked by his deputy governorship candidate, Mrs Bisi Okeowo-Bolade, the Director -General of GNICO, Engr Tony Ojesina, ADC chieftains, Chief Joju Fadairo and Dr Izaq Salako among others, said its party has the privilege and unimpeachable information about the alleged orchestrated plan.

He said the opposition parties had perfected four different rigging plans to manipulate the governorship election, highlighting violence in polling booths as one of the plans to cause mayhem during the polls.

The ADC candidate said his party would not disclose the details of the mode of operation by which they (opposition parties) planned to rig in the elections.

“In the last few weeks, we have been inundated with unimpeachable information and security reports about the grand plot by the opposition parties to deliberately compromise that election. They have hatched four different rigging plans, one of which we shall highlight here while the other three shall be withheld doe exclusive counteraction.

“The first plan is to unleash thugs to precipitate violence in many polling booths and compromise the collation of election results up to close figures and push it to a point of having overall results declared as inconclusive (in a first run scenario) and then force a rerun in premeditated polling booths within a particular senatorial district (name withheld); where they then hope to cement the plot by outright intimidation and harassment of our party members or sympathetic electorate,” he said.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to get itself involved in any sinister plot by the opposition parties to rig the election.

Isiaka insisted that his party would ensure that every vote count in the election.

The governorship candidate said: “We are fully ready to protect every single vote the people freely give to us by using all means that is lawfully feasible.

“We also use this medium to call on the newly posted Resident Electoral Commissioner and his team not to lend themselves to the sinister plot of these anti-democratic elements. They must make every vote count and resist the temptation and inducement of the current establishment,” Isiaka added.

Isiaka, therefore, charged the electorate to embrace ADC by voting for all its candidates for good governance and a better future.
