Ogun IPAC suspends chairman indefinitely over alleged misconduct, abuse of office

Published by

Thirty-four political parties chairmen in Ogun State under the umbrella of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), on Wednesday, voted in favour of the suspension of its state Chairman, Abayomi Arabambi, indefinitely over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Arabambi was suspended during the inauguration of IPAC Committee Chairmen in Abeokuta, the state capital which was presided over by the deputy chairman, Moshood Adesina.

The body through its Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee said it had received three petitions against Arabambi, who is the state chairman of the Labour Party.

Arabambi was directed to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee to answer some of the allegations levelled against him.

However, Arabambi, in his reaction, argued that his purported suspension was illegal, saying those who suspended him lacked the power to do so.

He submitted that the party’s constitution only empowered the chairman to convey and preside a meeting.

“Section 3.3C (3) of IPAC constitution says that the chairman shall be the chief executive officer of the council, shall summon and preside over all meeting council meeting.

“Any meeting that I did not preside over is null and void. What happened today is of no effect as they don’t have the power to suspend me”. Arabambi said.
