THE high rate of insecurity in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, has been a vexing issue. We have a pathetic situation and a social abnormality in the town.
Several cases of robbery and theft have elicited fear and uncertainty among the people.
Just three weeks ago, some armed men stormed the residence of the head of the class of the Department of Mass communication, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic. The robbers inflicted machete cuts on him and his room mates and made away with valuables such as phones and laptops. The rate of theft, even in the school, has become worrisome.
There have been several cases of missing phones in lecture rooms, computer centres, and so on. This has left victims in a traumatic state. The affected students are helpless, as nothing has been done to reverse the situation.
In addition to the cases of robbery, cult clashes and violence have become regular features of life in the town.
In what could be described as a battle for supremacy and dominance, cult groups identified as Aiye and Eye have been at daggers drawn. Just last week, a group of young men trailed a student to his apartment where he was cut to death with a machete.
I, therefore, appeal to the state police command and the state government to address the situation.
