Ogun govt not owing teachers’ salaries ―NUT apologises

THE Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), on Wednesday, apologised to the Ogun State Government, over a news publication that it was owing teachers’ salaries.

Speaking with newsmen in a telephone interview, the National Secretary General of the Union, Dr Mike Ike-Ene, claimed that Ogun was not one of the states that are owing teachers’ salaries in the country.

Ike-Ene said that the interviewer of the news item erroneously included Ogun among the 13 States.

The NUT scribe described the state government under the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun, as a teacher-friendly governor who has continued to promote teachers’ welfare and turn around the education sector in the state.

He said, “Governor Amosun has transformed all areas of the State including the education sector, so I would not have mentioned the state. The error emanated from the reporter that interviewed him.

“So, we apologize to the Government of Ogun State, Teachers and the entire good people of the State for misleading the public in the publication.”

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Oshinowo, expressed surprise about the publication, saying the State Government had continued to pay salaries of all its workers as and when due and not owing any category of its worker salaries.

Oshinowo further stated that, Government had accepted the apology tendered by the Union.
