Ogun gov offers automatic employment to Crescent Varsity’s best graduating student

The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Saturday announced the offer of immediate employment to the best graduating student of the Crescent University, Abeokuta, Halimat Abdulsalam, at the 11th convocation ceremony of the institution.

Twenty-three-year-old Ms Abdulsalam, from the Department of Biochemistry, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, had scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.93, the highest ever in the institution since it was founded in 2005 by the former judge of the International Court of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola.

Represented by the deputy governor, Mrs Noimot Salako -Oyedele, Governor Abiodun said his administration would continue to lift the education status of Ogun State through partnership with educational institutions.

At the event, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, were conferred with the honorary Doctor of Science in Public Administration, and Doctor of Science in Mass Communication respectively, while Dr AbdulRahman Hamad Altamami of Riyadh Ministry of Education bagged an honorary Doctor of Letters in Islamic Studies.

While conferring the honorary awards on the awardees, the chancellor of the university and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, expressed delight at the steady growth of the university and the sterling performance of its products in the last 15 years.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of other honorees, Oba Aremu Gbadebo eulogised the vision of the founder/proprietor, Prince Ajibola, adding that “we will see what we can do individually for this university.” He also urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of their alma matter.

In his speech, the vice chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, said the university would continue to computerize all academic activities thereby making it 21st century-compliant.

He disclosed that significant progress had been made in the university’s quest to establish a College of Health Sciences, and that a memorandum of understanding had been signed with the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, which would provide clinical training for the students, while a “purpose-built nursing laboratory is nearing completion.”

He also restated the university’s zero policy for examination malpractice, indecent dressing, drug abuse, cultism and other social vices.

A total of 412 graduated at the ceremony, with 33 First Class honors, 173 Second Class (upper division), 163 Second Class (lower division) and 43 Third Class honors.
