In Ijebu-Igbo, unidentified assailants allegedly killed Ogar Fidelis, a maize farmer, at his farm in the Odomosibi area on Saturday.
This tragic event follows the recent murder of Taiwo Paul, a rice farmer, by suspected herders in the Kata area of Ewekoro Local Government Area, just two weeks prior.
Taiwo Paul was found in critical condition at his rice plantation with severe cuts to his neck and right leg.
He was discovered by his twin brother, Kehinde, who found him lying in a pool of blood and groaning in pain before he succumbed to his injuries.
Despite the similarities in the violent nature of both incidents, the state police command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, clarified that the two cases are unrelated, and the assailants in Saturday’s incident remain unidentified.

A source in the police command, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to a lack of authorisation, said Fidelis’ family grew worried when he did not return from his farm after leaving early Saturday morning.
The search party, according to the police source, was shocked to find Fidelis’ lifeless body on the farm, with severe machete cuts on his neck and other parts of his body.
Meanwhile, the command’s spokesperson on Sunday said the corpse had been taken to the hospital for autopsy and noted that the investigation was still ongoing.
She said, “We are not suspecting anyone yet. We are investigating the matter. We will know the circumstances after the investigation is completed.
“In the meantime, the body has been deposited at the University Hospital in Ago-Iwoye mortuary for autopsy.”
