The Ogun State Government
on Thursday said it has distributed well over 12,000 Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) and other title documents to landlords in the state.
This was disclosed by the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, at the distribution of another batch of the documents to 1,000 beneficiaries, held at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Amosun represented by the State Head of Service, Mr Abayomi Sobande, said the scheme was initiated for home owners to regularise their documents at a lower discount.
The governor expressed displeasure over corrupt allegations against some of its officials as regards the scheme, urging members of the public to expose such corrupt officials demanding bribe to the appropriate authorities.
He assured that his administration would work on grey areas in the process of the documents.
Amosun said: “Expose any corrupt official or fraud and we will deal with them. We will continue to look into the process so as to make it faster. Our administration is committed to serving the good people and residents of this state better.”
Similarly speaking, the state Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning, Mrs Ronke Sokefun, also advised applicants to report sharp practices to appropriate quarters.
The state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Adewale Oshinowo, said the governor had given directives that all necessary machineries must be harnessed towards scaling up the monthly distribution of title documents to 4,000 applicants.
Oshinowo said over 149,000 house owners in the state subscribed to the programme.
He added that out of the 77 per cent that had their sites inspected, 32 per cent could not be invoiced due to non-conformity with pre-condition for qualification.
He said, “Such property fall under those built under high tension cable, those occupying right-of-way of the NNPC or any major pipelines, those built on the ‘set-back’ of roads, water bodies, gullies and flood plains.
“Others are substandard or defective property, property subject to legal dispute, non-residential property, and unhabitable property.”
