Ogun decides: APM rejects election results

THE Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Ogun State has rejected the results of the Saturday, March 9, Governorship and House of Assembly elections as being announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

As at the time of filing this report, the electoral body is still collating results from the 20 local government council areas in the State.

The party requested the electoral body to suspend the announcement of the results and investigate infractions as observed by the party.

Addressing a newsmen conference on Sunday, in Abeokuta, the state capital, the Director-General of the party campaign organisation, Alhaji Sarsfadeen Ishola, said the election which kickstarted on a peaceful note was disrupted by some hoodlums and unidentified uniformed men in many council areas across the State.

Ishola flanked by the governorship candidate of the party, Hon Adekunle Akinlade and other leaders of the party alleged that there were instances of collated falsified results sheets in Abeokuta South, Abeokuta North, Odeda, Ifo, Obafemi Owode and of note all local government areas in Ogun East.

He argued that the results of areas where the All Progressives Congress (APC) had won were altered to increase the margin between APM and APC.

“The disruptions were clearly designed to ensure that the APM does not meet the required constitutional requirements of 25 percent of votes in the council areas of Ogun East Senatorial District and to suppress the electoral strength of the APM in Ogun Central Senatorial District where the party clearly enjoys superior strength.

“These infractions are against the provisions of the Constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act. The Allied People’s Movement made a formal protest on these infractions to the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Ogun State as reports from our agents across the state revealed these atrocities.

“I hereby on behalf of the APM formally rejects the collation process that was hijacked and compromised because it did not reflect the wishes of the people of Ogun as freely expressed in the March 9 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

“The APM wishes to put INEC on notice that we shall explore every means within the provisions of the constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to challenge this miscarriage of injustice,” he said.
