Ogun commissioner stresses importance of education

EDUCATION has been described as the bedrock of social, scientific, economic and cultural development of any given nation.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Modupe Mujota, made the observation at the handing over ceremony of projects donated to Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, through the Central Bank of Nigeria intervention programme.

Mrs Mujota said that the intervention had given hope and optimism to the state, despite what the country is going through at present.

She added that despite the fact that both federal and state governments are expending so much on education, there is still so much to be done if the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) are to be realised.

She said the state government would continue to appeal to corporate concerns, public-spirited individuals and other non-governmental organisations to join hands in lifting the sector to greater heights.

She assured the CBN management that projects donated would complement and enhance the academic performance of the students.

Earlier, an official of the CBN, Mr Ben George said the facilities were provided to facilitate positive result in education sector by providing conducive environment for both teachers and students at the school.

Some of the facilities provided included two new blocks of 12 classrooms each, 1,200-capacity new school hall, a science laboratory and 16 toilets.

Others were two 18-seater buses, borehole and renovated blocks of classrooms.
