Coalition of Border Communities Development Associations CBCDA in Ogun State, has called on the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, to jettison the planned expansion of Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway project and focus on uncompleted road projects in bordering communities in the state.
The coalition in a release signed by its Chairman, Samuel Ayo-Oloye , said the government should first provide conducive environment for its growing population working and residing communities bordering Lagos State.
The coalition decried the continuous neglect of hundreds of communities bordering Lagos State which roads are in deplorable conditions.
“Life and well-being of millions living in communities very close to Lagos State should be given priority against the big time investors and multinational companies, including about three car assembly plants.
“If the state cannot complete all ongoing road projects, it is abnormal to embark on new ones that will gulp about N60 billion. We believe the governor’s focus at this moment should be completing projects initiated by his administration.
“The government is yet to complete the 32 kilometres Sango- Ijoko-Agbado- Oke-Aro-Akute- Ojodu Abiodun Road which has brought untold hardship to residents of communities in the area.
“The last time construction work was done on the abandoned road projects was in November 2014. The project had kicked off in late 2012.
“Also, residents in Magboro, Makogi, Sefu and Abule Oba, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state have resolved to self-help by raising funds for the completion of the abandoned roads.
Other areas where roads are not accessible, especially during rainy season include Agbado, Lanfenwa-Itele, Adiyan, Matogun, Ijoko, Lambe, Oju-Ore-Ilogbo, among others.”
The coalition, however, urged the state government to direct the newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to begin repairs of the major roads in their domains.
“This is how the LCDAs impact can be felt because many of these communities have never enjoyed dividends of democracy from the Ogun State government since the inception of this political dispensation,” the coalition said.
