Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution confirming a branch of transport union, known as Riders and Owners of Motorcycle Organisation (ROMO), as an affiliate of Motorcycle Operators’ Union of Nigeria (MOUN).
This is part of moves to strengthen the operations of the transportation sector in the state.
The passage of the resolution followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Transportation, by its Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Ayodele, who thereafter moved for adoption, seconded by Hon. Seun Adesanya and supported by other lawmakers through a voice vote.
The Majority Leader, Yusuf Sherif, later moved the motion converting the recommendations of the Committee into the House Resolution, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye and was supported by others through a unanimous voice vote.
“The report partly reads: “We your committee on transportation met and discussed the request of the ROMO, Ogun State chapter, notifying the House about its new status as an affiliate of MOUN and seek for necessary legislative support and recognition in its desire to become a member of the larger union and work closely with the MOUN to advocate for the rights and interest of its members at the national level.
“The Committee, having gone through all the relevant documents attached and done its due diligence on the request, resolved that members of ROMO stands to enjoy numerous benefits and empowerment programmes through the Federal Government’s various initiatives for better operations as a member of the larger union.
“The Committee hereby recommended that the House should pass a motion to this effect and forward same to necessary agencies of both the federal, state and the general public to accord ROMO due recognition as an affiliate of MOUN.”
