Ogun: Akinlade files notice of appeal at Supreme Court

CANDIDATE of the Allied People Movement (APM), in the 2019 governorship election in Ogun State, Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade, over the weekend filed a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court to challenge the judgment of the election petition tribunal.

The appeal will also challenge the ruling of the Court of Appeal which validated the election of the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.

He revealed this in a statement signed by his media aide, Azeez Adelani, a copy of which was made available to the Tribune Online on Sunday.

Akinlade said: “My resolve to see this struggle to a logical conclusion hinged on the constitutionality of our actions and the need to truly represent the wish of the people who came out in their thousands on the 9th of March, 2019 to vote for me.”

Akinlade noted that it is not about his personal ambition but a call to duty and honour. He further stated that each stage of this struggle from the Tribunal, Court of Appeal and now Supreme Court comes at a very high cost in terms of legal fees but no amount is too much to pay for justice.

He, therefore, thanked everyone who had contributed one way or the other to this struggle, stating that: “No matter how it ends, we must remain resolute and determined because it is not the end for us but the beginning of greater heights,” the statement read.
