The senator representing Ogun West in the National Assembly, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has stated that discussions about his potential governorship ambition for the 2027 elections are premature.
The lawmaker made this known over the weekend while addressing journalists after an annual New Year thanksgiving service at the Unity Cathedral of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ogun Province Seven, in Ilaro.
“I don’t think it is time to talk about governorship ambition now; we are still involved in trying to bring back the dividends of democracy to the people as senator elected for Ogun West,” he said.
Yayi, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, is widely considered one of the leading aspirants for the governorship race.
Political observers have noted his efforts to garner the support of key stakeholders across Ogun State, despite his assertion that it is too early for such discussions.
The senator, who previously represented Lagos West in the Senate for eight years before shifting his political base to Ogun State in the build-up to the 2023 elections, described the thanksgiving event as a moment to celebrate and reflect on past achievements.
He said, “What we are here to do today is to appreciate the Almighty God for His support in the past years and to also celebrate the new year with my people for their support and cooperation. So in the future, we can start talking about that when the time is ripe to know if I am going forward or I am staying where I am; the future will determine all of that.”
Yayi also assured his constituents of impactful representation in the coming year, pledging to prioritise development projects and empowerment initiatives for Ogun West.
“2025 will be another exciting year; our people should be expecting good things as far as my representation in the Senate is concerned in terms of development projects. They should expect more empowerment and contributions to national issues on the floor of the Senate so that we can build a virile and much more prosperous country.”
The Thanksgiving event was attended by political associates, traditional rulers, and supporters from various parts of the country.
