Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja crisis: Okowa sets up vigilance committees in communities

DELTA State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has said that youths from Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities in Udu and Warri South-West local government areas will be conscripted into vigilance committees to consolidate on the peace that has been achieved in the area.

The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday while briefing journalists shortly after the State Security Council meeting held in Warri.

“We just finished security council meeting where we analysed security situation in the state and it is gratifying to note that the state is peaceful.

“We give kudos to security operatives for working very hard for us to have peace; it shows effective and proactive management of information,” Okowa enthused.

Speaking on further efforts made to entrench peace in the area, the governor said: “we met with Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities to consolidate on the peace we have achieved in the area.

“We will engage the youths of the communities through surveillance teams on both sides; the committees will be effective within the next one week,” he disclosed.

Governor Okowa, who expressed joy that the people are happy with the peace deal, stated that the process of delineation of the boundary between the two communities would soon commence.

He added that with the peace that has returned to the area, developmental projects, ranging from construction of blocks of classrooms and roads, among others would be executed in the area.

TribuneOnline reports that Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities have been on each other’s throats over boundary dispute that has led to several loss of lives and properties on both sides in the last 10 years.
