OFFCUT: We don’t need your N50 petrol price slash, Nigerians knock IPMAN

Nigerians have voiced their discontent over the recent N50 petrol price slash announced by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), calling it insignificant and unlikely to ease their burdens.

Responding on Tribune Online’s social media platforms, many expressed that the N50 reduction was insufficient.

IPMAN, through its National President Abubakar Maigandi, announced on Tuesday that Dangote Refinery had agreed to supply petrol to IPMAN members at N940 per litre for depots and N990 per litre for trucks.

As a result, IPMAN members, who previously sold petrol between N1,150 and N1,200 per litre, would adjust their prices down by N50, depending on the location.

However, Nigerians reacted sharply to the news. On Facebook, @Jibreel Buba commented, “They increased it by over 400% and now reduce it by just 0.0005%? We don’t need it.”

Another user, @Ken Ebamawo, wrote, “What’s N50? If fuel is N1,000+, how much is N50? Keep your ‘slash,’ please. This country is a joke.”

@King Yahaya Kazzah Sr added, “Just N50, and you want us to celebrate? God forbid.”

Further analysis by @Taiwo Oluwadare read, “So the new price will be N1,100 and N1,150! Are they expecting Nigerians to celebrate this?”

User @Adam Instictt questioned, “N50 is what you call a ‘slash’?” while @Moroof Ayodele dismissed it entirely, writing, “We don’t need your N50 reduction. Give that to your families.”

The reaction reflects a widespread sentiment that IPMAN’s reduction falls short of the relief Nigerians are hoping for amid rising fuel costs.
