Ode-Aje Alalubosa residents want Oyo govt’s intervention on collapsed bridge

RESIDENTS of Ifelodun community in Ode-Aje Alalubosa, Ibadan, Oyo State have called on the state government to rebuild the collapsed bridge at Odo Iya-Alanu that links the community with Agugu, Iyana Idi-Obi, among others.

Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, chairman of the community, Chief Musbau Aibinu, said the bridge collapsed last year during a downpour.

Aibinu added that the bridge is always submerged with flood whenever it rains, adding that due to the condition of the bridge some people have lost their lives while some sustained different degrees of injuries.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that on many occasions vehicles plying the road had fallen into the pit, just as he added that “there was a time a car and Marwa fell into the pit and it took the intervention of residents to rescue the passengers.”

Aibinu further said that the community has tried all it could to get the attention of the state government but their efforts have not yielded positive results.

“We have written series of letters to the chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government Area and the state Ministry of Works, but all to no avail,” Aibinu said.

He noted that the council chairman has come to inspect the collapsed bridge but the community is yet to see the outcome of the inspection.

The community chairman appealed to the state government for a quick intervention as criminal activities are being perpetrated under the collapsed bridge at night.

“We are begging the state government to come to our rescue, as criminals have turned the place to a hideout,” he said.

Another resident of the community, Elder Paul Adebisi, said the government should not only rebuild the collapsed bridge but also dredge the river so as to allow free flow of water.

“The bridge was once reconstructed during the administration of the late Alhaji Lam Adesina when it collapsed,” Adebisi added.
