October 1: Bauchi Christian community holds prayer for Nigeria

Christian Community under the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Tuesday, converged at the auditorium of Bishara Baptist Church (BBC), Bauchi to celebrate the 64th Independence Day with fervent prayers and praises to God.

The Christians trooped to the venue of the prayer meeting with determination and zeal to thank God for keeping Nigeria as one united entity since Independence in 1960.

They engaged in praising God for everything that is within Nigeria just as they also prayed continous unity and peace of the country as well as a divine intervention in the current economic downturn which has negatively impacted on existence in the country.

In his address to the Congregation, Bauchi State CAN Chairman, Rev Dr Abraham Damina Dimeus stressed that though the situation is not palatable, there is still every reason to celebrate and be happy.

He said that the situation is not a hopeless one as it is redeemable with commitment, dedication, acceptance of each other coupled with honesty and accountability among the leaders and the led.

According to him, “The Christian Community in Bauchi state has every reason to be thankful to God for keeping us safe and secured. We have an administration that is open and accessible. The Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has been fair to the Christian Community since he came on board in 2019.”

He added that, “For the first time the Christian Community is having Two Commissioners, a number of Special Advisers and Assistants. We have Broad members and heads of agencies. It is only fair for us to pray for the good of the administration.”

He however expressed displeasure that in spite of the invitation to the Christian politicians and public servants, they decided not to be in attendance at the programme which was a purely religious exercise.

The CAN Chairman also berated some Christian organisations who have decided to operate solo in the state saying, it is not a good development just as he called on them to join hands with CAN in order to advance the cause of Christianity in the state.

He stressed that good governance is when people feel positive impact of the administration in terms of peace and peaceful coexistence irrespective of ethnoreligious differences.

Abraham Damina Dimeus expressed the readiness of CAN to move with any organization that exhibits resolve to team up and partner with it in making the activities of CAN to be recognized.

In his remarks, CAN Secretary, Rev Matthew Laslimbo commended those who turned up for the meeting which he said is an annual event during which Christian gather to praise God for mercy and grace as well as pray for peace and unity.

The CAN Scribe also joined the Chairman to call on all Christians in the state to as a matter of necessity, join hands in order to achieve the set objectives of the Association which is unity and peace in the state.

During the event, various Choir groups sang praises to God after which the congregation engaged in the series of prayer sessions.
