Observe necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks, Oyo dep gov admonishes residents

OYO State deputy governor, Mr Raufu Olaniyan, has urged residents of the state to observe necessary measures to guard against fire outbreaks, especially during the current dry season.

Olaniyan stated this on Thursday at an event organised by the state government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to distribute relief materials to victims of rainstorm disaster in Asabari Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state.

While distributing the relief materials at the Kinnikinni open field in Saki, the deputy governor disclosed that it was to ameliorate the suffering of the victims, as no amount of gift could commensurate with the loss suffered.

He added that the current administration in the state had put in place measures to sensitise members of the public on the need to prevent fire disasters, which has become rampant of late in the state.

The deputy governor also appealed to members of the public to adhere strictly to the state’s environmental sanitation laws and regulations in order to prevent human-induced natural disasters.

Earlier, the caretaker chairman of Asabari LCDA, Mr Sarafadeen Omirinde, commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his people-oriented policies.

He said: “Today’s event further goes a long way to show that Governor Makinde is leading a humane and masses-friendly government.”

The South-West Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Slaku Luguard, also commended the state government for creating synergy between the NEMA and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), as well providing a favourable environment for the agency’s operations.

He pledged his support and cooperation with SEMA to ensure succour get to people of the state who suffer disasters.
